I always thought snorkels were more for show and didn't really do much. That was until I was in Moab with 4X4 friends and we watched a guy hydrolock the engine in his jeep. He was ripping through a large puddle (maybe more of a small pond) that was a bit shallower than the height of his tires, he had gone through it a few times and then suddenly the engine quit. He tried to start it again, but to no avail, just the sound of the starter straining against a seized engine. We went over to see if we could assist in any way. While pulling him out, I overheard one of his jeep buddies say wrangler JK's have a bad intake design and its not that uncommon to hydrolock engines in the new JK's.
Lessons learned: Snorkels actually do work, and its probably best not to go in semi deep water unless I absolutely have to.
Anyway....that snorkel looks totally rad on your 4Runner, good write up
