Yeah, there is a point to everything. Mostly it was to give the option of serviceability, rebuildable and slight strength increase. Can't get too overkill. Heard of a few guys ripping apart the inner ball socket so having some added strength there might be better. But there is a point to where bigger parts fail. My 4runner is my DD so it does get wheeled probably hard for the majority on here but compared to actual trail rigs not that bad.
Interested in what situations the racks fail at. I've heard of gears skipping teeth and leaks.
