You could do APRS with your Kenwood using a MobilinkD bluetooth TNC and a tablet. That has the advantage of having a full map for tracking and a good keyboard for messaging. I have an FTM-400 which makes APRS a snap and quite convenient, but without a tablet all I get is "station x is 5.1 miles to the west" for tracking.
