BTW, oil is absolutely not oil. Oils are by no means all created equally.

Oh, no doubt. It's just that any name brand oil of the proper spec has never been a consistent cause of death in 4Runners. There's likely a 5th gen with 300k out there that hasn't been using OEM oil. Might even be making slightly more ticking as a result.
