Off-Road Trips Summer 2019

Hey T4R Team!

I've made this post in a few other places and I thought I'd share it here too.

WHAT: Family Friendly Off-Road & Camping Trips (Group)
WHEN: Summer 2019 (MAY-AUG)
WHERE: Colorado & Surrounding States
WHO: T4R Family & Friends

So, to start things off, I am a medical professional who works 12 hour shifts each weekend (FRI-MON) and I cancelled my summer class in order to give my mind and body a break. I was working weekends, and being a full-time student all week, I am TOAST.

What I would like to do is plan several camping/off-road events all over the state of CO and the surrounding areas involving you guys. I would love to learn trails you favorite wherever you're located and possibly camp a day or two on them as well. I understand that sometimes it's a little difficult to go out and wheel/camp on your own, so maybe we can do small groups so we all can get out and benefit.

I would love it if you all could post up what you would like to do and a timeline in which you would like to do it in? We can make a map of times, and places where we are going to travel to and perhaps all go around to each place and experience the trails and camping experiences together... think of it as a mobile, small-scale FJ Summit without the giant ticket costs.

EXAMPLE Iron Clads, Allenspark CO. PLAN: Rendevous at (pick a gas station and date/time) drive to trailhead, off-road on Bunce School Road (sister trail attached), return and explore the Iron Clads trail. Set up camp, cook dinner, campfire/campfire stories, bedtime. Wake up next day, cook breakfast, clean up campsite, group photo, drive out on Bunce School Road connecting to highway. Disperse.

I think this would be a great chance for those of us old cronies to mingle with and share the good times with the new crowd plus share our passion with their families. We can plan frequent trips at locations all over the state, so those who can come will, and those who cannot will have ample opportunity to join us on our next trail.

This is just an idea and this may take a bit of work, but I think it would be worth it. As an Eagle Scout, I want to get your kids and your family out of the house and into nature as much as possible- this could be a fun way to do it.

Rules (tentative)
1. Pack it in, pack it out
2. Tread lightly
3. Don't litter
4. No marijuana (despite it being legal, I don't want that around families)
5. Alcohol is OK as long as you don't get wasted up on the trails/at camp
6. Fire extinguishers must be at campsites
7. Radio communication is required for medical/other emergencies
8. Vetting of trails and campsite availability before event is posted
9. Firearms are allowed, but target practice/shooting, and brandishing in campsite not allowed unless in defense of campsite against wildlife
10. No entering closed trails/bypassing closed gates without written permission
11. Trail difficulty required so we can inform stock vehicles of the dangers/body damage likely to be incurred.

Anyways, just an idea I'd like to see taken to the next step- I wanna wheel, camp, and make new friends this summer. I think it would be a great time for our community to get out into nature together, meet each other IRL, take some great photos for our builds, and have a good time with the family.

Looking forward to seeing some replies to this post, more ideas, maybe a mod group for these events, and some tentative plans!

-Seth
