I understand the difficulty when buying previously owned. I don't understand the region restrictions if buying new.
I could not find what I wanted at a dealer in SoCal in July 2012 when I was looking for a Trail. A dealer in Long Beach was willing to order one in my choice of color, with or without KDSS and Nav. They had a few on the lot, but not what I wanted and none in Shoreline Blue. The rep said they don't order that color for the lot.
We put together an order in early July and my 2013 arrived in late September.
Is it a case of the dealer not being able or willing to set up an order with the Regional Manager?
Makes me wonder if the dealers only want a sale off the lot and not have to wait for their commission with an order.
I had a similar problem when looking for a Sienna here in Oregon a few months ago. I was in SoCal on a trip and met with the rep who sold me the 4Runner. Same deal, I told him what I wanted, none were available nearby but he would order one as I wanted with a fair discount from MSRP.
