I think the lower shock bolt hole is a different size but the bushing with correct size hole can be put in with some elbow grease? Sorry if I'm incorrect

Springs yes. I don't know the amount of lift.
Front shocks, no (way too long).
Rear shocks, maybe - but the length will also be too long.

the springs are a direct fit but will provide a certain lift which is mostly undocumented at this time.
the front shocks are too long.
the rear shocks will fit but will require a certain amount of lift (The Bilstein 5100 rear shocks for the 5th gen 4Runner requires at least 4" of lift or thereabouts). the lower and upper mounts for the rear shocks are the same with the 1996-2002 4Runner.

Put on 5th springs & shocks
Be ecstatic as it "fits fine"
Go wheeling
Tear open boots
Break inner tie rods
Have 4Runner towed home
Put 3rd Gen springs and shocks back on

The rear shocks will bolt right up. They are 22" extended and approx 15-15.5 compressed.
If you are using them for off-road use, I would recommend OEM Tokico blacks for a FZJ-80 as they are 23" extended and 14.5" compressed. They should be about $80 for the pair.
Stock 3rd gen shocks are approx 20" extended and approx 13" compressed

2nd gen folks use FZJ-80 front springs in the rear like us too, so I assume the spring perches are the same or very similar. This guy bent the lower spring coil to make them fit his 2nd gen.

Bump for any other new news on 5th gen suspension components fitting 3rd gen.
I believe only the rear coils are a "direct fit", shocks are too long front/rear unless the 3rd gen is 3-4" lifted..
I assume the new fox shocks are the same issue, no go unless you're willing to rock 4+ inches of lift.

I don't know about springs, but i can tell you that the rear shocks 100% bolt straight in, kinda. I had to trim the bushing at the top hat a little with a hacksaw and the bottom is a little wider than the OEM shock, but the threads will still grab

I kinda feel like this has been covered a bunch...
- 5th gen front springs are a direct fit (will give some lift and are stiffer)
- 5th gen rear springs are nearly a direct fit - they are slightly larger diameter and have a shorter free length but will lift a 3rd gen. They will be loose at full droop with stock length shocks and can fall out with longer shocks.
- 5th gen front shocks will not fit in any way.
- 5th gen rear shocks are 2-3" longer (compressed/extended) than stock but otherwise fit. Will need bump stop extensions. Don't use with 5th gen rear springs if you will be offroading (flexing or jumping).
This is the same for 4th gen and FJ Cruiser suspensions too (lift heights of springs vary).

So I ran across a deal with rear king shocks with resi’s the only thing is they are for a 4th 5th gen runner. I was thinking of running a 2.5-3 suspension lift and a 1 inch body lift. Will

Check the collapsed and extended lengths, you may need to extend your bumpstops to use them. And you will have to get a little creative with mounting the resis since the 4th/5th gen rear shocks mount outboard and the 3rd gens are inboard. Assuming they are remote resis.

I was thinking of relocating the shocks mounts outward. Maybe with a shock hoop or outward mount. But idk of that will work with a 3 inch lift.
