The fairing rests on the roof by design. If it is adjusted up away from the roof, it will contact the roof at high speeds, so to prevent that, it is adjusted all the way down to prevent flexing. We include the edge trim to protect the paint, but as an extra procaution, you can also do what

did and add clear paint protecting vinyl beneath it as well.
