My ideal version would be a V8 limited 2 row 4Runner with KDSS and the e-locker/MTS setup. I'd buy today if it were available. Or a GX setup with the Prado Adventure Package.

I spent a lot of back and forth between the GX and 4R when buying mine. In the end it was the utility benefit of the 4Runner with more cargo space in the 2row option and the weight difference along with the locker/MTS. The GX requires a lot more body cutting to get it into trail ready condition. And it's a lot of additional cost to setup with front/rear lockers because most don't come with MTS. I think you can only get the MTS/Crawl with the air suspension on the luxury package.

The biggest plus of buying a 4Runner is that I could trade across now very easily with almost no cost. The GX depreciates so much faster that I can basically swap out for a GX whenever I want without too much issue other than the cost of removing all of the mods from the 4Runner that would then be installed in the GX. I've been pretty seriously considering it for a while. But my biggest reason not to is that I'd rather just go with a LC200. And I haven't found the right one used yet. I also struggle with accepting 13mpg. So possibly when the 2021/22 new version comes out with a v6 hybrid I'd jump. If the MPG is significantly better it would go a long way toward swaying me. So for now I'll wait and see what happens there. Or wait for the 6th gen t4R/GX platform to see what looks best.
