In short, yes.
I believe it's just being stated that you can generally find a higher mileage, older gen with some upgrades...
Based on what you've stated though, sounds like you may not need that.
A bone-stock SR5 will take you nearly anywhere, and definitely the places you've mentioned...
Perhaps leave some $$ aside for some good tires if they're not on the 4Runner you get... Good tires are critical.
