You're not alone. I'm Barely scratching the surface of the issue myself. I just know that there's a whole lot more to it than "yup, all 6-lug Toyota OEM's fit".

I don't really think a Rim width difference of an inch will mean much (don't know) so long as you stick with similar Tire sizes. The issue there is that a wider rim tends to need a wider tire, combine that with more positive offset and you're really running into clearance issue territory.

But this is 100% theoretical on my part. I have not tried to fit any other wheels, on any vehicle, ever. Well, I swapped Porsche wheels for Porsche wheels once (2 models offered for the year car I had, went from one to the other)... I'm too cheap and firmly rooted in Function over Form territory. I'm only looking into swapping things on this 4runner because it's cheaper to buy take-offs than buy/install/balance new tires.
