Mine is an SR5 - key unlocks tailgate.
The latch for the tailgate is still electronic. Turning the key in the tailgate is the same as pressing the unlock button on the driver's door. An added bonus is that it lowers/raises your back window. If your battery is dead you will still have a locked tailgate.
