3RZ vibration at around 2000 rpm

Hi guys

3RZ-FE, 5 speed

Thanks to posters on here, I tihnk I have found the source of one of my noises (front diff CV carrier bearing - new ECGS bushing in the mail!).

But I have an engine vibration which is separate from any driveline / road noise.

I should say first that my engine runs really nicely, no oil consumption, good fuel economy etc. Valve clearances are spot on. The engine was rebored and rebuilt (by me) about 30,000 miles ago, so I have a feel for which components are possile culprits (things I did not replace at the time).

Anyway, my vibration starts at around 2000 rpm and I can feel it through any hard part of the vehicle I think. I think it's just the natural vibration of the engine, but it somehow feels a bit too strong to me (maybe I'm being paranoid - it is a 4 banger after all). It does it when the vehicle is stopped and in neutral, clutch in or out.

The engine mounts were new and look fine, thoug I do notice the rubber is dark from the vibraiton (i.e. the rubber is moving, so that dirt / dust do not crust up on it, which it ould do if it was static). The transmission mount is original asfar as I know, but I cannot bring myself to replace it as it looks and feels fine - the rubber is still soft and the two parts of the mount are kept off each other.

The injectors were replaced about 15,000 miles ago with brand new, genuine Toyota parts. During the rebuild, the head and valves were all replaced with genuine parts and the block was machined so I can't believe that I have serious cylinder pressure issues (though I have not checked). I do plan to run some injector cleaner through it, but somehow I doubt it will do much. The engine is as clean as a whistle inside.

The only cuplrit I can think of is the harmonic balancer, I can't tell if it is running perfectly true (there might be a slight wobble, or it might just be different patterns in the rust on the item) but it's certainly not badly off centre. I do have a new one here with me, which I plan to fit.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Antyone had the same problem?

Thanks

EO
