I forgot that you were the proud owner of a poorly repaired vehicle by the previous owner. With that in mind and thinking more about you having to crack the bleeders to push the pistons back in, there is a possibility that the piston in the master cylinder isn't returning all the way to allow the brake lines to depressurize and return fluid back into the reservoir. Just a thought and something to consider if new calipers don't fix your issue.
