@JMZ400 We're also the second owner of our 4Runner and I've never seen this happen to any of my other vehicles.

It's happening primarily on the bottom of the seals (rear hatch and front doors since the rear doors don't get nearly as much use). I am making a guess that it's due to the getting into and out of a taller car where the footwear probably catches the rubber.
