Your not wrong, its shame and not the Toyota way. I bet these things don't at Japanese dealerships.

The front (curved) radiator support that the skid plate fastens to is replaceable. PO/Dealer broke off bolt and I almost ordered a new support bracket as a fix. I was finally able to get the old bolt out after removing the rad bracket from the truck.
