There have been no noted issues with our rubber seals on any of our racks from our experience or from our customers. We highly recommend avoiding silicone as we have seen improper use lead to some very expensive damage to the headliners of vehicles.
We use chloroprene rubber that is rated for -30 to 200 °F which also has excellent resistance to oil, grease, and salt. Over the past year and a half and have seen excellent results with no issues from salt, mag chloride, and water as a whole. I hope that answers your question!

Agree with you guys on the silicone. Seems like most racks use silicone which ends up being application dependent. Some people are putting too much and others too little. I like the idea of a rubber foot and maybe some additional silicone. The stock Toyota rack essentially uses a rubber foot and a mild dab of silicone on the bolts. I had a leak in my rack a few months ago and had to apply silicone because the original installer didn't do it. Now i'm paranoid after every rainstorm.
