I agree with @AuSeeker about the Trans temp being more of an idiot light than a useful warning feature. I use my 2006 sport for towing my hardside popup trailer (~3200 LBS dry) with a lifted OME suspension with taller tires. I use the ScanGuage OBDII scanner to keep a close eye on the trans temp as well other metrics when towing.

I went this route after we burned up the trans in my Dad's Ford towing the trailer around Wyoming the year before.
