The wear and tear on an automatic transmission, fluid, etc. is mostly during shifts, not when it is in a particular gear. Once it is in a gear, the transmission doesn't care which way the load is applied. The only difference in coasting in 5th vs 4th or 3rd is how fast it is spinning and some increased load on the gears. It's not like the gears are strong in one direction and weak in the other. It's just the opposite side of the gear teeth get the load during coasting vs. accelerating.
