And this is the reason that I frequently post in lighting threads.
Toyota can't just stick LEDs in the current housings and call it a day. They have spent at least two years testing the lighting units and they will deliver a lighting unit that meets the Federal requirements - something no aftermarket unit can do.

I would like to see a focus on safety, but expect Toyota will be going for what sells the most units at a price point. Lights that look good in the showroom and on the test drive. Throwing a lot of white light everywhere without focus is a distraction to oncoming traffic and gives little distance. There’s a reason that led replacement bulbs in halogen housings aren’t street legal. Performance in inclement weather, and heat to help melt snow and ice, are rarely considered. I think some of us are still better served by high performance halogens. It will be interesting to see what capabilities the new headlights offer.
