It's the reason why only a handful of yards today will let the customer pull your own parts. The funny thing is some of the recycle yard workers are just as reckless as the customers.
I told the worker I wanted that rare fuel filter cover shield underneath. I told him if I could pull it since it's right there and only has less than 7 bolts. He says he has to do it and proceeds with the front end loader to lift the rig up. And cracking the shield I wanted to buy. He said glue would fix that long crack right down the middle of the shield.

Similar experience when I bought my elocker axle. The junkyard cut the wire harness and dragged it to the front with the loader. It ruined the brake backing plates.
