V8 Starter Replacement - Part # Request for rear coolant crossover gasket
Well - Let me tell you, getting the starter out of the V8 equipped 4Runner's is a blast. Mine failed on me while on a trail @ 251,000 miles. Pretty good service life, but I'd sacrifice replacing every 100,000 miles if they'd just stick it under the vehicle.
Getting the intake manifold off and gaining access to the starter is actually pretty straightforward. Getting the starter off is the more challenging part.
I decided to pull what I can only describe as a "rear coolant crossover" to gain access to the right side starter bolt for removal. I do not want to reuse those gaskets and risk a leak once everything is buttoned back up. I can't seem to find a diagram or reference part number anywhere, so I'm hoping one of you good folks will be able to help me out. I can snap a picture of what I'm talking about if needed, but it's a cast piece that bridges the rear "v" of the engine and is held in place by 2x studs/nuts on both the LH/RH sides. It sure would be handy to have part numbers before going to NAPA. Elk season starts back up in 3 days, and I'd rather not hunt out of my Subaru if possible!
