Yes and no... I say yes, because most of the time, the tire is on the taller rock so coming down off a rock the tallest point of a rock is where the tire was and the bumper there follows the tire.
I say no, because sometimes not many I have hit the reciever hitch.
Overall, yes it is better Id say pretty much most of the time but I dont know where you're located or the type of wheeling you do. I will at some point get a real bumper with a swingout carrier, its 3rd on my list lol..
