West Coast Auto, Montclair, CA

Dealership had a 2018 TRD OR with 20k miles for $40,XXX, (can't remember the exact price when I first saw it). It wasn't until a week later until I actually came to the dealership to check out the car. By then, they had lowered the price twice to $40,688. I think it was about $100 or $200 each time.

Driving the car was awesome, really enjoyed the vehicle, but the sales guy kept getting calls and texts during the test drive and it was kinda weird? This is my first time buying a car, so I don't know if this is normal or not. Wasn't really put off by it, but it def set a bar.

Once it came to the pricing of the car, he mentioned that they got the car from auction, and now they were going to offer it to me for $39K. I countered with $34K and was willing to go up to $37K. Sales guy disappeared for quite some time and asked me to come back to the office of who I think is their sales director.

This guy told us they got it at auction for 41K and started throwing all these numbers and literally SHOVING a phone in my face with an app that shows real time AUCTION prices of the same car. The keyword for me there was auction. He pretty much said that the only reason why they mark up the price of the car by about $3K was because of the add ons that were pretty basic, (car tracking app, insurance, and coating sealant). He also mentioned an MMR? Can't remember what that was exactly but I think it had something to do with the auction.

They gave us time to think about it, and I knew I had to walk away. They did give me a chance to make another offer, which I did to $35K, but they couldn't make that deal. I was totally bummed to not get it, cause that car was awesome and it really great shape.

As for the dealership themselves, I'm not sure if I recommend it mostly because they kinda fit the description of sleazy car salesmen at a used car lot, but they were more direct and weren't like jerks or anything. Its just I think they got ripped off when they bought this car. As of now, the car has been at the dealership for almost two weeks, and while I personally wouldn't pay that much for this car, I'm sure someone else will and I'm sure they are holding out for that.
