This is exactly why I think the LT Wildpeak is the better tire for folks running them in the southwest (which is what I had on my 2016). The most incredible thing about that tire was that I literally was on pace to get probably 70K miles out of it if I had wanted when I had it mounted on my 2016 (traded out to my 2020 with around 50K miles on them and they still had something like 8/32 on them).
Yes, the SL saves you a bit of money and is definitely lighter, but I honestly think the LT is worth it for longevity and piece of mind if you don't mind the slightly rougher ride. At least for those of us who actually use these tires in pretty rough stuff as opposed to rolling them to the mall and back in Florida
