I wanted a capable offroader and daily driver, one that could haul the family gear for camping too. The 3rd gen is aging, less power and much smaller. The 5th gen is still very expensive and not a huge upgrade on the 4th gen besides looks. I also looked at the Tacoma, but they are still more expensive than a 4th gen 4Runner and have smaller back seats for kids.
My selling point - Reliability, safety, price point, V8 power, 4x4, size, offroad capability, comfortable.
I would not mind a 5th gen in the future when they cost less and my 4th gen has run its course. Love my 2004 SR5 V8.
