I can't say if that's too much or not, but to me since I do my own mechanical work it sounds a little high since I could buy the parts and do the work for under $150 including coolant, shouldn't take longer than 1 1/2 hours, I could do it in an hour.
That being said the V6 cooling system holds a little over 2 1/2 gallons of coolant, I don't think 1 gallon will be enough, you might want to get another gallon just in case.
