Pop open the grommet and inspect it before buying that motor- you may get "lucky" and just have to solder a few wires together.

You are correct.
The hatch did have many frayed wires, I have soldered them all and fixed it. My problem is the metal stud that holds the wiper was broken off. So the wiper can't attach to the motor. I'm fairly sure I have to replace the whole motor since the stud isn't replaceable.
