Aack, I hate hackjobs. If that wire failed the engine shuts down and won't run since the ECU will cut spark if it gets no signal from it. You'd have to get it towed. That is, if you were in a location that could be accessed by a tow truck. Glad it's back up to speed again. I don't want to ask you what your bill was after all that work from a dealership...
On the topic of the TBU brakes, I did them and they have been great. You'll find your ABS will kick in much less since it takes less brake pressure to apply more stopping force since the pads have a larger surface area and more friction. I would recommend staying with Toyota rotors, pads and going aftermarket with the calipers. The calipers are all reman'd Toyota ones anyway. That formula has worked very well for me. I do plan on changing all 3 rubber brake lines with stainless steel though to get rid of that last bit of squish in the pedal. Actually, that might be a great place to start if that's all you are after.
