The OEM filters also use a real o-ring which is much better at sealing and the o-ring comes pre-lubed. For those reasons alone, it is worth it!
I'd still be willing to use a Purolator or Bosch oil filter, but my two Toyotas can use the same filter, so I just keep the D3 filter in stock on the garage...
