I was concerned about that too when I ordered. 'Tacoma' should be fine and I don't believe 3rd Gens used the (Tundra) CAN protocol at all. It turns out the the gauge will choose the correct protocols and even when you do a full factory reset (no pre-programming) like i did on mine a couple of times it still works fine. These things are pretty fool-proof (registered Fool here), so don't stress over it. The things are almost frustratingly basic - a refreshing throwback or an annoyance - your choice. To me, real ECU data for engine and trans temps are priceless. The dash gauge is worthless until it's too late. There are threads on here somewhere that document the process to add trans temps that I followed and then I repeated them in another thread and they worked for that person.....can't find them at first glance.
