I run my 2011 Limited with the OEM 20 inch rims and the TPMS sensors in the summer.
For the winter, I switch to OEM TRD Off-Road 17 inch rims and winter tires with no TPMS sensors.
The TPMS warning light flashes upon start up in the winter, and then will stay lit while the vehicle is operating. There is no audible (noisy) alarm.
To avoid distraction, some people will place a small piece of black tape over the warning light when they do not have TPMS sensors in their tires.
