Dented Rear Shocks

I bought these shocks used from a forum member. When they arrived I noticed they were dented from where the previous owner gripped them to remove them. Will this affect the performance of the shock?

It seems like the outer sleeve piece that is dented is protective and not part of the shock piston but I just wanted to get another opinion before installing.

They are KYB gas a justs.
