I just installed some JBL 329s in the dash and if you look at the connector coming from the amp, it only has 2 wires, one + and one -. The jumper wire you see along with the 2 wires coming out to the speaker has one set for the mid, and one set with an inline capacitor for the tweeter. You need just the 2 for the mid.
I initially installed the capacitor that JBL provided, but the sound was very quiet and it made a popping noise on startup. I removed the capacitor and the volume increased, the pop went away, and no distortion at Max volume (I listen to gangster rap).
I didn’t want to destroy my factory speakers, so I used the Taco Tunes harness (they do not have a JBL specific harness listed for the 4Runmer). 3D printed the brackets (thank you member on this site that posted the STL files!) and reused the factory bolts.
I did this mod, because I have blown the dash speakers 2x under warranty, fried the amp, and blew the subwoofer. This JBL system has done pretty horrible. Now that I am out of warranty (still only 29k miles on it), I have no choice but to upgrade to prevent a gap in music while I drive. So, I am in the process of full upgrade.
I was going to start a new thread but 15 posts is a lot!
