I went to the OBDLink MX+ forum and asked this question, "The 5th generation 4Runner doesn't have a Engine Oil Temperature Sensor and yet there is a Toyota Specific PID that displays Engine Oil Temperature. Is the value calculated? If so, how is it calculated?"
Their reply, "EOT is obtained directly from a sensor, or inferred by a control strategy using other sensor inputs. The Toyota specific PIDs are supplied directly by Toyota and unfortunately, do not come with any explanations."
Apparently, Engine Oil Temperature is a value calculated from other sensor data. Perhaps someone with a TIS subscription may find information about this Toyota specific PID and how it is used by the ECU.
