There have been other threads concerning this issue. If installed properly the metal housing snugs right up, bottoms out, and cannot be torqued any tighter like you experience with the plastic one.
If the o-ring is installed properly any leaking is due to a small amount of oil on the engine side threads seeping out. Once it all seeps out it’s done.
I saw that leaking with mine the first time after installing the metal housing. Now I clean all threads well and leave the skid plate off for a day or two of driving to check it. I’ve never seen any more leaks.
