Obviously its not going to make 30 more hp when you swap the transmission but the ability to keep the engine in the power band ( or in this case torque band) makes it seem that way. I am not a big fan of the auto transmission in our 4runners. Its geared high and relies too much on the torque converter. It works fine for flat terrain and highways and is better for rock crawling but really does poorly in steep paved hilly roads. Which is what i drive on every day. So take where you drive it into account if you want to do the swap.
