I know when I put my KMC under the rear, it was slightly challenging to get the plate through the hole, and I had to do a C shape route where you get one of those tabs that sticks off it in first at an angle then straight down then curve it the opposite angle.

hmm...great question. I'll go give it another shot with the "C" route. I only tried once and it was right as the shop was closing because i had to go back at the last minute because they forgot to give me my fifth wheel.
however it was obvious that the diameter of the hole on the new wheel was less than the yellow spare. maybe the back opening was wider and then the front closes down? will have to look into it further.
