That's not for button pushing the fob to unlock. The 2.3 ft is how close the fob needs to be in order to open the doors without pushing a button on the fob.

Now I'm curious as to the actual range. It seems strange to say, but I have not used the buttons on my fob once. I prefer just grabbing the door handle and unlocking/locking.
