How is anyone surprised that 5G T4R windshields crack easily? Its simple physics. Just LOOK at the thing. The rake is more vertically oriented than many vehicles and the glass is relatively flat. There's nowhere for rocks to deflect!
Same deal with FJs, Wranglers and G-Classes.
I'm coming into this winter with a brand new 4R. They spread pretty much pea gravel in Banff National Park where I'm going to be at least 1x per week. No salt at all. They don't want animals licking the roads. It's pretty much guaranteed that I expect the factory windshield to last a month before I get a good crack across the thing. This isn't any different than my previous '17 Armada and '12 Grand Cherokee. The OEM glass on those were ****ed by spring.
Honestly, I've had better luck with "cheap Chinese" windshields than I've had with OEM. I've at least gotten a couple of years out of them sometimes.
