Running light wires from front to back

This rubber strip looks removable. (its the rubber strip on the roof, just above the doors) Is it difficult to remove? How do you do it? I assume removing the rails first would be required. Could it be cut, to not have to remove the rail? (weatherproofing/tightness issues?) Is there room under to run wires for lights?
