If you read my response earlier you would know that it doesn’t fix electrical problems with fuel injectors, doesn’t work on fully clogged injectors, and won’t fix a stuck open injector. I specifically said dealerships because that’s where I work. I don’t work at a mom and pop mechanic shop or anything along those lines. The point of that statement is they are a common tool and a common service that is commonly unsold to customers. Your mileage may vary and dealership experience may vary as well. I have a lot of specialty tools that I wouldn’t expect anyone to need let alone know about. Most mechanic shops are going to have transmission/coolant/power steering/brake flush machines too. Feel free to go buy your own. We’re not intentionally keeping that a secret from you or the general public.

I also (personally) don’t recommend using a fuel injector cleaner through the fuel rail. Most of those products only cover the cost of the product if an injector fails after using it and are not recommended/approved by manufacturers.

There’s a lot of handy tools that I wouldn’t expect anyone that’s not a mechanic to know about. I’ve got a sheet metal skin wedge tool that is the perfect tool for interior trim work. Semi deep/swivel/impact 13mm and 15mm 3/8 drive sockets make transmission bell housing bolt removal a breeze. I have a few tools that I have only used once for very specific repairs like a chopped down T15 for an ignition switch on a 2005 HHR with a steering column that would unlock to move up/down.

TLDR; just because you aren’t aware of a tool that most dealerships and mechanic shops have doesn’t mean the automotive repair industry is hiding it from you. I really have no clue where you got the “trillions in business” figure from either. Pulling that one out from where the sun doesn’t shine I guess. Go forth and preach the good word of the massive automotive conspiracy to keep people in the dark about fuel injector cleaner tools.

Edit: the global auto repair industry was estimated to be worth 700 billion usd in 2020. GLOBAL… That includes all auto repairs not just fuel injectors.
