My Isuzu Trooper did that and I thought it was a pretty neat and useful feature. The illuminating light didn't blink, it just lit up that angled view when turning left or right, in conjunction with the blinker, and triggered by the blinker.

Wonder why manufacturers went away from it, or is Toyota just slacking on details because they can and still sell a ton.

I loved that Trooper, if you get a chance to drive a late 1990's to 2002 Trooper go for it.
