You could chase the threads and clean them up if it's not too bad, or you could go with a helicoil. I'd much rather a helicoil over putting an oversize bolt.

Well, 19 years down the road and I'm good :-) I don't take it off road so I just keep the skid plate there because, well, it's there. It pulls my bass boat and Airstream just fine, which is why I got it. It hasn't been back to that dealership except for tires. I have an independent that's Toyota certified for all the things I can't fix.
