Replacing Starter From Inner Fender.

My 300k mile starter was starting to make noise as the engine started so it was time to replace it.

Removing the upper section of the trans dipstick and removing the two bolts that hold the brake line in place are first. (IMO)

When you get the starter bolts removed (I use a ball socket swivel) drop the tail end of it and rotate it almost 90 degrees
And then gear end over the frame rail sliding the brake line out of the way. Do not break the plastic connector. By dropping it or banging it into something.

When you install the replacement starter slide it in like you removed the old one but you need to do it in such a way that the top is able to go between the motor mount and the exhaust manifold.
That will give you the room necessary to slide the gear end into the hole and get a bolt started to hold it in place.

My spare Denso has a broken connector so I used my spare new Napa that is an exact clone of my spare Denso with the broken connector.

The motor turns over twice as fast now and since it’s a clone I’ll bet the repair parts for an OEM Denso fit this knock off.

Sadly my old one is probably toast. The gear teeth ends are all ramped from not kicking out as the engine starts. And that starter looks slightly shorter than my other spare and it’s Napa clone. Did I end up with a 1.4kw? Don’t know other than this starter wasn’t capable of turning over the engine fast enough to to make the oil pressure light go out before engine run.
