extended warranties can work out in your favor but the odds are against you. they are a revenue stream for dealers and often very high margin, as seen by the deep discounts mr jerry johnson is able to provide- and still make it profitable for the dealership
my 4runner is 12 years old, about 165k miles and I have not had one repair that would have been covered by the platinum plan. I always choose to self insure unless legally I can't
at the end of the day if an extended warranty helps you sleep at night knowing a major repair won't cost you thousands then go for it, however unlikely that is of occurring. it's basically the cost of piece of mind, because chances are you will not need that coverage
tire warranties, rust modules, extended warranties etc. those add ons are the most profitable part of a dealership in terms of margin. all just different and creative ways to sell piece of mind
