Retrofit OEM CD player to 2023 4R
I love the 4Runner for its old-schoolness. Why did toyota drop the CD player? What I really want is a plain Jane stereo receiver with CD player and an AUX input. I do not want car play or all the newfangled gadgetry. I have no interest in converting 300+ CD to digital files to play via a thumb drive. I don’t even own a computer to do that with! I do not want my car to download the contents of my phone. I want my tech partitioned, not interconnected, and not salable/reportable to big corp or big gov.
SO… will a 2019 era OEM head unit with CD player work in a 2023? Yes I have searched. No one else seem interested in going “retro”. I’ve seen the reverse thread putting a newer head unit in an older T4R.
I would prefer a clean OEM solution. But I realize I may have to go aftermarket. What a nightmare that would be. If one could get an OEM style HU with CD player and Garmin onboard nav that would be tempting. I want absolutely no other tech - no “infotainment” just a dang radio/CD/Garmin.
Do I want too much (or too little)?
