Final fluid level in tranny is a procedure. Best done if you have a readout of tranny temp.
Basically you overfill a small amount-then at the correct temperature you open the special drain plug that is connected to a pipe inside tranny. When fluid dribbles you put this special plug back in.
My Scanguage 2 provides tranny temp and dozens of other readings thru OBD2.
Verify your year and model 4runner outputs the tranny temp thru the OBD2. It is a handy tool- I have mine attached all the time for reading my tire pressure.
