Well, you have to think about the breather hole/tube for the automatic transmission. I know that, in the 3rd gen 4runner, the front diff and transmission breather tube can be seen in the engine bay (driver's side of the engine). The other thing to look at is the height of the air intake for your engine.
For my 3rd gen 4runner, it is about 27". I am not sure about the 4th gen 4runners. I tried to find the breather tubes for the front diff and transmission, but i had no luck...honestly, i did not look too hard for them though.
