More important does anyone know where you can actually buy the Panasonic batteries like the OE? I looked a few years ago when the one in my Lexus died, but nobody had them, everything was cheap crap.

That is impressive.
I don't know where you can get a new one. I am sure some dealer in the US can import them, similar to the OEM oil filter, but I am sure it is costly.
I have had good luck with Duralast gold batteries (7+ years). If you have a little more $$$, the Odyssey battery may yield better results.

there's a thread about this somewhere, but i recall that you can't get them anymore for whatever reason, i know i know, that's a crap post that's not really of any help, but i do remember reading that you can't get them anymore short of finding one in a junk yard somewhere and hoping it's good.
here's a thread with some talk about it, and guys using my fav. battery in lieu of the stock one.
Odyssey makes good stuff imo.

I replaced it with a DieHard Platinum P-5. It was a bit narrower than the stock battery so I had to rig up a little piece of wood to get a snug fit with the bracket.
I did some research and found out that there are only a handful of battery manufacturers and EnerSys makes both Odyssey and DieHard batteries.
Odyssey vs. Diehard Platinum

EnerSys only makes the Diehard Platinum batteries (you got a good one), who knows who makes the Gold and below. I don't think it is Johnson Controls.
A friend had a Diehard Platinum go south on him after two years and Sears upgraded him to a size larger when he brought it in.
How much did that puppy cost ya if you don't mind me asking?
When I worked in low voltage installations (think in home stereo installations), a fellow worker had a Panasonic drill with two 18v batteries that lasted for the three years I worked with him.

This battery was also the OEM battery on my 98 Subaru Impreza and it lasted 9 years. Quite impressive considering I never had an OEM battery last more than 4 years prior to this! Not sure if this shortened or prolonged the battery life, but that poor little Impreza never knew what a garage was.

Still have my orig battery… Until this Saturday :(
Hi. I just joined and this is actually one of my problems.
Brief history…
I was charging my phone in my car about 2 months ago and had the car turned over but not running… I left it charging for about 30 minutes and came back to a dead battery…
After leaving the car alone for about 20 minutes… the battery managed to recharge itself????? I was shocked but it did…
Fast forward to today, woke up this morning to go to work. Car battery dead.
Making a "click..click..click.." noise when turned over, tried to jump it but no dice.
Waited all day… jumped it again when I got home from work and it started right up. My 4-runner is a 2007 and it still has the orig Panasonic battery which I love (esp. if it magically recharges…)
From glancing through the posts… I guess it's hard to come by another one of these batteries? As I mentioned in my "intro"… I am a girl. I know nothing about cars. And I know that some girls know a thing or two about cars. I do not. I am a veterinary technician and could tell you the entire anatomy of a dog or cat but couldn't tell you where the starter is. I know. Because I looked. And now I am bruised up (because I thought that was my problem after my car wouldn't jump… yada yada…) Won't be doing that again.
Anywayyyyyy… Really long story short. If I can't get another panasonic battery (If I can, let me know where and how much)… I need the best battery I can buy for $120-$130.
Thank you!! Sorry so long and drug out.

Go to costco. Seriously.
They usually stock very decent products and it comes with a 5 year warranty.
You may want to call ahead to the local store and make sure they have the one you need. They may have to special order it.
I would absolutely buy a costco battery over an autozone battery.
If you have the cash just go to sears and get the $200 die hard platinum.
One last thing, do you know anybody (guys, whomever) that knows something about car audio?
Ask them to help you replace "your battery negative to car chassis cable with a 4 gauge wire"
It is only about 12" long and it sits right there in plain site. You can buy a 4 gauge cable from West Marine or a auto parts store. Someone who knows car audio can do this fix in less than 30 minutes and probably for less than $30. I'm serious, this will help a lot.
This will greatly, greatly help your 4Runners charging system.

@ 4RUN07
It's the one on the far right connected to metal. You can see where I scrapped away the paint.
I don't know anything about 2007 4Runners. But on a 96-02 this helps out a lot.

I'm also a fan of Costco batteries. I have all three of the cars I maintain running them now.

Costco or get a interstate just had to replace my girlfriends interstate it was 11 years old and would have kept going had she not left the rear hatch open enough to just leave the light on.
